Touring Program for ExperiencedCampers
June 25-29: Optional Pre-Tour training week
July 2-6 and 9-14: Tour
Ages 11-18. Special permission
required.
Campers with prior experience, who are
accomplished jugglers and who can perform basic tumbling skills with
confidence, and who demonstrate interpersonal maturity and an ability
to self-motivate, may request attendance in the Tour Session. The
program concentrates on longer and more advanced training sessions in
lieu of crafts and games. Campers are able to choose areas of
specialization and spend more timein that activity.
5 days are spent training, building a show, and rehearsing. Then
there are two days off during the weekend. During the following 6
days, campers make day trips to various locations and perform for
community groups, gaining experience in working cooperatively, taking
responsibility on tour, and interacting with different audience
populations.
This summer the touring camp will place a new emphasis on empowering
the youth participants to take a more active roll in the process of
developing their skills and directing the show that they will then
take“on the road” to perform. Through cooperation and
collaboration with their coaches and each other, campers will have the
opportunity to be fully engaged in the creation process and will take
increased responsibility for determining which skills they will focuson
over the course of the training period. Additionally, in
accordance with their level of experience, campers will be asked
toshare their skills with each other and create new tricks and forms,
rather than relying solely on the expertise of the coaches.
The "Tour" is our most advanced level camp of the summer and is
performance-oriented. Except in unusual circumstances, the
tour campers are teenagers, or at least "tweens" (11 or 12.) We
are looking for campers who are experienced performers, who are
comfortable with tumbling (rolls, cartwheels), who are confident 3-ball
jugglers (at least), and who have experience in at least one other
circus skill that they want to develop. Tour campers need to be
able to work independently of an adult supervisor and be able to
collaborate with other campers to create acts for the performance under
a pretty rigorous schedule. An audition or interview may be
required prior to admission to the Tour. Two letters of
recommendation are required unless they are waived by the Tour
Director. The letters would be waived if the Director knows the
applicant personally and/or has worked with the applicant in previous
situations.
