The program consists of an entertaining and educational one hour assembly. The first half of the assembly, suitable for all ages, is titled SPINNING FUN AND SAFETY. The second segment, suitable for students in grades 3 and up, is the SCIENCE OF SPIN. Using multiple demonstrations and class participation, students are introduced to the concepts of gyroscopic stability, rotational inertia, planes of spin, distribution of mass, potential & kinetic energy, friction and levers.
The NO FEE option: The choice of most schools!
Schools obligation is to provide for sale of yo-yos/spin tops through the PTA, school store or other school department and allow yo-yo/spin top practice during recess periods and/or P.E. classes for a minimum of one week. No Mininum amount sale is required.
The FEE option:The program is available without the yo-yo/spin top sales and recess play for the regular price of $895 plus travel expenses.
Dale Oliver. 1992 World Yo-Yo Champion and skill toy teacher for 45 years, has taught over a million youngsters the spinning arts. He is a designer and manufacturer of high tech yo-yos, spin tops and diabolos plus author/editor/consultant for numerous skill toy instructional books and videos. Dale and his wife Valerie (Yo-Yo and Spin Top Champion) have traveled worldwide presenting the Science of Spin(R) program to schools and science centers. Dale Oliver and his Science of Spin(R) program, which uses spinning toys to teach physics, were featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal on December 21, 1998. He was consultant and editor of The Klutz Yo-Yo Book published by Klutz Press, selling over 400,000 copies in 1998, as well as You Can Yo-Yo published by Scholastic Books, which sold over 900,000 copies in 1998. He has also co-authored and edited the second yo-yo book in this Scholastic series. Valerie developed an Interdisciplinary Yo-Yo Curriculum, using the yo-yo to teach and reinforce concepts across all educational disciplines, including Social Studies (history), Language Arts, Science and Math. The Science of Spin(R) program always receives the highest accolades from students as well as teachers and administrators.
