Jim McCarthy: Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter »

My students actually wanted to do some reading as soon as we returned! Now that's impressive!
--- 4th Grade Teacher

CELEBRATE READING is a sing-along, clap-along concert that celebrates books, authors, book characters and all the joys of reading. It's perfect for reading incentive programs, literacy nights, book fairs or anytime throughout the school year. Many schools book the show for a beginning-of-the-year assembly to make reading a priority right from the start of the school year. And there is a special version of the show called LET'S KEEP READING that is designed for the end of the school year or for summer school.

CELEBRATE READING is usually done in two assemblies; one for lower grades (usually K-2) and one for upper grades (usually 3-5 or 3-6). It can also be presented as one whole-school assembly. The length of the show is approximately 40 minutes.

Some of the books and characters that are featured in the songs of the show:

Charlotte's Web, Treasure Island, Little House On The Prairie, Harry Potter, Stuart Little, The Hardy Boys, The Cat In The Hat, Clifford The Big Red Dog, Huckleberry Finn, Where The Red Fern Grows, Freckle Juice, Green Eggs And Ham, The Call Of The Wild, The Giving Tree, Where The Wild Things Are, Where The Sidewalk Ends, The Secret Garden, Babar, Nancy Drew, Encyclopedia Brown, Amelia Bedelia, Ramona, Arthur, Franklin and more.

Students sing-along and clap-along with catchy, instantly learned refrains and, in some songs, the students listen for information and answer questions after the song is finished.

Jim uses a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar with exciting effects and pre-recorded backing tracks (bass, drums, keyboard, synth, etc.) that he has created in his home studio. And it all goes through a high-quality stereo sound system. Visually, the audience will see display boards filled with colorful book covers and will delight in the colorful light display. The concert is a fun, exciting musical journey that your students and teachers won't forget!
