Reptile Expert and Conservationist »

Bruce always emphasizes the importance of using the Media Center to learn more about reptiles. He is an inspiration to students and has encouraged them to pursue careers that are based on their interests.
--- Barbara Dwyer, Family Educator, Janie Howard Wilson Elementary

Reptile Discovery provides an opportunity for students to meet and learn about reptiles from all over the world. Their natural history, geography and conservation are presented in a manner that students can enjoy and understand.

Each program includes:

  • a Yellow-footed Tortoise from South American or an Alligator Snapping Turtle
  • a Rhinoceros Iguana
  • a Chinese Alligator or African Crocodile
  • a variety of colorful, non-venomous snakes from North or South America
  • "Banana Boy" a sixteen-foot albino Python from Thailand
Since 1974 Bruce Shwedick has shared his fascination and knowledge of reptiles with students of all ages in thousands of schools and colleges across the country.

He presents lectures on venomous snakes and snakebite for medical students in the U.S. Armed Forces and is an instructor for the Crocodile Biology & Management Course provided to zoo keepers by AZA, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
