Dancing Wheels is a professional, integrated dance company comprised of dancers with and without disabilities. Founded in 1980 by Mary Verdi-Fletcher, the company developed a strong relationship with Cleveland Ballet in 1990 and formed, Cleveland Ballet Dancing Wheels. Since then, dancers of all abilities have inspired and enriched the lives of audiences everywhere. In 1994 Sabatino Verlezza joined the company as co-artistic director/choreographer.His innovative choreography accentuates the abilities rather than limitations of the dancers and works to dispel the myth as to what individuals with disabilities can achieve as artists. Dancing Wheels received the 1998 Ohio Governors Award for Excellence in Outreach, was invited to perform on the ABC televisison special, Christopher Reeve... A Celebration of Hope and was recently featured on CBS Sunday Morning. The company tours throughout the U.S. offering full length mainstage concerts, lecture/performances, artist-in-schools outreach programs, workshops and masterclasses.
