Steve Swinburne's visit was the best author visit Stevens School has had, in large part becuase he displayed an unusual sensitivity to children's ages and development levels. ---
Steve takes students on a tour of his books from the original idea and blank page through the stages of writing, editing, rewriting, illustrating to printed book. Using slides, Steve shows first manuscripts, rough sketches, color proofs, and final bound books. He includes his personal history and anecdotes about how he came to the writing life. He concludes the program by performing his new poety book call UNBEATABLE BEAKS on the African drum. Question and answer period follows. Children love learning about the publishing process and how books are made from the viewpoint of a published children's book author.
Steve Swinburne is an award-winning author, photographer and naturalist of over 10 books for children. He lives in South Londonderry, Vermont with his wife and two daughters.
